I was recently part of a team that had the honor of contributing to the vision of Dr. Aida Martinez-Freeman of Taina Coaching and Training LLC, in order to catalyze the expansion of her dream into a mobile app. The goal of the app is to reach more PhD candidates to connect them with coaching and other resources to help prevent them from experiencing feelings of loneliness and depression while going through the dissertation process. The isolating nature of composing a dissertation was a huge revelation to my team and it was obvious that we needed to iterate around catering to this need, along with incorporating conveniently accessible coaching aspects into the mobile app design. My team worked extremely well together at a high level and found our client quite pleased with our finished design product when we presented it to her. Below,you can see part of our ideation process. We hope that this app will reach a multitude of students that would otherwise be struggling and assist them in getting the support they need. We would love to see the app reach other educational levels aside from PhD candidates, all the way to middle and high schoolers. We also aspire to see the app become a useful tool for military veterans who want to attend college. In addition to these expansions, the app could become instrumental in creating new coaches from current and former PhD students, since they are best able to empathize and provide guidance for those currently navigating the dissertation process. This will create a culture of support and encouragement that will advance not only the higher educational community but ultimately, our world overall.
It has been a thoroughly amazing, enriching experience working on this project! We’re excited to see what the future holds for the TLC mobile app and for Taina Coaching and Training, LLC as a whole.
